God, I sit here early in the morning desiring more of You and thinking about how I totally did not wake up early to my alarm clock as planned. I try so hard to discipline myself to do the things my flesh doesn’t want to do, but constantly fail at it.
Have you been there?
Feeling like your heart yearns to wake up really early to spend uninterrupted time with God or just to wake up early to do something that’s important to you, but because of being too sleepy or just not waking up to your alarm clock in time, you fail miserably. We’ve all been there, and as many of you can see, this is an area that I am continuously having to improve in.
The one thing that God keeps reminding me of is that He is a loving God and that
“there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1 KJV).
This should bring comfort to your heart because God is not a tyrant who would beat you down for not waking up to your alarm clock or harp on you for not checking off something from your to-do or goal list that you may have been determined to complete in a certain amount of time.
Despite our failures and flaws, God is faithful to His Word and still loves us. That’s what I love about God and His Word. He is not caught up into how good we performed a task or how proficient we are with handling a certain thing. He loves us regardless of how good or bad we perform. Praise God for that!
God constantly reassures me that I don’t need to walk in shame, guilt, or condemnation for not waking up early to spend time with Him or to work on something He has put on my heart to work on before work, or quite frankly, at any given time.
Since He is an infinite God, He is timeless and can redeem the limited time we feel we have. That’s an area I had struggled with for many years, even presently. Thinking that I have to always schedule God into my affairs, but God constantly reminding me that He is ALWAYS present, ALWAYS in tune with our hearts, ALWAYS concerned about what we’re concerned about, and ALWAYS speaking to us.
If you are struggling with feeling bad or guilty because you haven’t fulfilled everything on your to-do list or didn’t wake up early to spend the planned out time you had scheduled with God, or are struggling with feeling guilty for constantly not following through with what you tell yourself you are going to do, know that God STILL loves you unconditionally.
I’m going to say it again! God STILL loves you unconditionally and has probably already forgotten that you didn’t wake up in time when your alarm clock went off.
If He’s not going to beat you up about it, then stop beating yourself up and ruining your whole day because you think you messed up or that you’re not a disciplined person. Know that you are not alone.
2 Timothy 2:13 NIV
If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
